The surrounding farms are harvesting the delicious results of a long, hot summer, and preparing to celebrate all the beauty and fun that is autumn in the Valley. There are so many reasons to get out of your Harrisonburg apartment and make the most of the season – we have a few suggestions to get you started.
The Shenandoah Valley is home to beautiful working farms, and fall is a great time to visit and sample the fresh harvest. Make plans to go Back Home on the Farm – their fall season has just begun, and includes a wonderful corn maze, a 7 acre pumpkin patch, and so much more! This year’s theme is based on Woodstock ’69 and offers fun for the whole family with over 40 attractions and activities, and lots of delicious things to eat.
One of the truly special sights associated with living in the Shenandoah Valley is our spectacular view of the Harvest Moon. This year, head out to The Barn for the Harvest Moon Festival on September 13 – 15, 2019. Enjoy delicious food, live music, and shopping with friends while you celebrate the glory of the harvest moon. Over 20 vendors from across Virginia will be ready to share their unique offerings – it’s a great chance to start your holiday shopping early for one of a kind items.
Autumn is the perfect season to enjoy delicious wine paired with cheese as you take in the changing countryside. Support the Dancing with the Stars of the Burg and enjoy music, dancing, live entertainment, and a silent auction that will support the Harrisonburg team (and give you the chance to buy some really wonderful services and items). Bluestone Vineyards is hosting this delightful event on September 15th in their Meeting House, giving you the chance to purchase some of their award winning wines for your table.
If you are looking forward to fall beer season while still trying to hang on to the summer running season, look no further than Run, Sweat, Beers!, hosted by Brothers Craft Brewery and VA Momentum. This free event is all about fun, and includes 1, 3, and 5 mile options. In addition to your sense of accomplishment, after the run you can enjoy discounts in the tasting room. This is a great chance to experience Harrisonburg beauty and beer with your favorite running buddies.
Perhaps you prefer a less active way to taste the amazing beer available in Harrisonburg. Unleash your inner artist and celebrate the season at the Paint Night: “Hello Fall” Sign painting event at Capital Ale House, September 25th. Paint with Master Artist, Allison Nickens, and sample a wide variety of delicious brews. Show up a little early for a world class meal, and leave with a new decoration to welcome autumn into your home.
Seafood lovers have the chance to support Habitat for Humanity at the very popular annual Harrisonburg Seafood Fest 2019 on October 4. This event is seafoodie heaven: crab legs, mussels, shrimp, oysters, salmon, great side dishes and delicious cold beverages will satisfy your craving for the fruits of the sea. It’s a good idea to get your tickets early – this is a highly anticipated event.
Even if you just take a walk, you’ll want to enjoy the amazing beauty of the area right outside your Harrisonburg apartment this fall. Nearby national parks, local farms, and the gorgeous foliage of Downtown Harrisonburg will reward you at every turn – this may just be the best time of the year!
